Why do we write? Why do we take the time to fabricate new worlds full of characters partially fantasy partially made from people we know? Why aren't we just content with the things that happen in real life? Why do we spend time creating worlds that will never exist?
Is it simply an escape we create for ourselves? Is it about becoming a god and being the master over the fate of those creations? Is it an outlet for our hopes and dreams? Our fears and disappointments?
Do I write about fantastical things because I wish there were here? Why do I tease myself with them if I know they'll never be real? Why do I take the time to create these places, with these people, and fill their lives with tragedy and discovery and hope and failure? Is it because I'll never do the things my characters will? Are they just vessels for my dreams? I will them to do the things I wish I could do?
Is it as deep as that? Or is the reason simpler? As people do we simply strive to be told and tell stories? Are we so dissatisfed with the real that we must create something new?
I can't say why I create what I create. I simply do. They are born in my mind and knock on the walls wishing to be set free. So why not set them free?
